Galvanizing and painting

At the Halwelding workshop, we manufacture metal parts and structures, which we can then protect against rust and paint. We entrust galvanizing and painting to our partner Zn Metals, but we manage the entire ordering process. The finished product can be collected in Jelgava or delivered throughout Latvia.

Steel products used outdoors, such as gates, fences, or railings, start to rust in their first season without protection. Galvanizing and paint protect the metal so that it maintains its appearance and durability for years. With the help of our partner, we provide hot-dip galvanizing, wet painting, and powder coating to ensure you receive a finished product protected against rust and painted in your desired tone.

What you receive

You place a single order and receive a finished product—cut, welded, protected against rust and painted in your chosen RAL tone. We select the treatment type and color tone together with you before starting work. You do not need to search for a separate company to provide galvanizing or painting, or manage multiple contractors.

Hot-dip galvanizing

Hot-dip galvanizing involves immersing steel in a molten zinc bath at a temperature of approximately 450 degrees. The zinc reacts chemically with the steel to create an iron-zinc coating that protects the metal from rust for decades. Zinc also coats seams, edges, and hard-to-reach areas, ensuring uniform protection throughout the entire structure, including the interior.

Hot-dip galvanizing is suitable for steel structures intended for outdoor use, such as gates, fences, railings and canopy frames. It is not required for stainless steel and aluminum, as these materials do not rust. Galvanizing is available for structures up to 13 m in length, provided by “Zn Metals,” the largest galvanizing bath in Latvia.

Wet painting

Wet painting involves applying liquid paint with a sprayer using epoxy or polyurethane paints in the chosen RAL tone. This method is suitable for large products that do not fit in a powder coating oven and for cases where the paint needs to be touched up later. Both galvanized and untreated steel surfaces can be painted. Wet painting is available for structures up to 16 m in length.

Powder coating

Powder coating involves first applying a dry paint powder to the metal surface, which adheres via static electricity. The product is then placed in an oven where the powder melts and hardens, creating a uniform and durable coating. This coating is more resistant to scratches and corrosion than conventional paint. Various RAL tones and finishes are available, from matte to glossy. The product must fit in an oven with a length of 6 m, so this method is suitable for gates, fence sections, furniture frames, and decor. Powder coating can also be applied to galvanized surfaces.

Galvanizing and painting together or the Duplex system

The best protection for outdoor structures is provided by a combination of galvanizing and paint, known as the Duplex system. First, the steel is galvanized, and then wet paint or powder coating is applied on top. Zinc protects the metal from rust even if the paint layer is damaged in some places, while the paint provides the chosen tone and additional protection. This solution is often chosen for gates and fences that must last a long time and look good simultaneously.

Which type of treatment to choose

  • The structure will be outdoors and durability is the priority

Choose hot-dip galvanizing, preferably combined with wet painting or powder coating (Duplex).

  • A specific color tone and a durable surface are required

Choose powder coating in your selected RAL tone.

  • The product is large or you want to be able to restore the paint later

    Choose wet painting.

  • The material is stainless steel or aluminum

Galvanizing is not necessary as these materials do not rust. We apply paint if you want a specific tone.

Other available treatments

If the structure is longer than 13 m or cannot be heated, metallization is suitable for rust protection, where zinc is applied by thermal spraying. There is no size limit for structures treated with this method. Before painting or galvanizing, the surface can be prepared with shot blasting (grit blasting). Passivation is also available for galvanized structures to protect against white rust. If you require any of these treatments, please specify them in your request.

How the ordering process works

  1. Send your idea

Send a sketch, drawing, or photo and indicate that you want a product that is protected against rust and painted.

  2. We agree on the treatment and color

We recommend whether galvanizing, painting, or both are needed and will help you choose a RAL tone.

  3. Receive a price offer

We include manufacturing, surface treatment, and, if necessary, delivery in the price.

  4. We manufacture and process

The part is cut and welded at our facility; galvanizing and painting are performed by our partner Zn Metals.
